Global Update

22-12-2015 16:48:00 +0000Earlier today President Buhari presented his budget to the National Assembly. While this event usually excites those who are into politics, the rest of us are usually bored to tears.
But this year is different. Twelve words uttered during that over three thousand word speech have the potential to impact the lives of so many Jambites. So we decided to share them with you.
The words are "free education for science, technology and education students in our tertiary institutions".
Although the details have not been released, most political commentators are interpreting this to mean that, the federal government will offer free tuition for those applying to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields at universities, polytechnics and colleges of education. There are still many unanswered questions such as:
- Will this program begin in 2016?
- Is this free tuition available only to Federal Government run schools?
- What happens if too many students change their course of study to STEM fields? Will the cutoff marks skyrocket or what other criteria will be used to screen candidates
We will continue to follow this story and update you when we learn more about the program.
