Students, lecturers and administrative personnel of the institution are still in protest of the change of name of the school. Many believe that the published propaganda on newspaper as to the bill for the change of name being passed into law was false, saying there was never any such bill presented before the State House of Assembly to talk of the least it being passed into law, and according to these persons until that is done, the name of the school remain unchanged. The source which spoke on grounds of anonymity said: "You do not change the name of a body corporate like ours, that is a university, on the pages of newspapers, there is a law establishing the institution and until that law is amended no such change is effective. university as of now remains by name, Kogi state university".
